Available Lite - A Day at the Lake
We (Amber, James and Renae) went to the lake Sunday afternoon. It's getting to that point in our schedules where the lake time is few and far between. I guess it's just the natural order of life to get "back to normal" when the kids start going back to school. It's great as far as the lake is concerned because as soon as school starts the lake is deserted. We should be able to get a few more Sundays in before we stop for the season. It never really stops and we have been known to put the boat in the water around Thanksgiving or even Christmas, because sometimes you just miss being on the water and we are sure to have at least one or two days of 80 degree weather around Christmas time.
Amber and I love to wakeboard. Personally I think that the wakeboard is the greatest water sport invention in a long time. After years of slalom skiing it was nice to get into a water sport that was more exciting then just seeing how fast you could go back and forth.
Last year Renae tried, unsuccessfully, to wakeboard, and for those that have never done it, it can be an arduous undertaking. It can take as much as 20 times being pulled behind the boat before you figure out exactly how it works. You can also tell someone how to get up on the wakeboard, until you're blue in the face, but until they do it for themselves it doesn't make a lick of difference. So this was a banner day for Renae. She managed to pop right up for about 2 seconds on her first try. Each time she got better and better until she made it a few hundred yards behind the boat.
This first picture is Amber. The water in Lake Austin can be pretty chilly. Usually it warms up around this time of year, but we have had a lot of rain lately so we haven't had those few weeks of sun to warm it up. Plus the water that fills Lake Austin comes out of the bottom of Lake Travis. We are only about 2 miles away from the dam in this picture.

The weather in Texas can change pretty quickly. It started to rain a little by the time Renae got out into the water. This did not help to make the water any warmer.
Because you stand sideways on the board, you have a tendency to follow your heal side the first time you get up. It can be pretty amusing to watch, because the person has fought so hard to get out of the water and all they do is head straight out of the wake and keep going left left leflt left left . . . Maybe it's not so funny when it's happening to you . . .

I told Renea to lean more on her toe-side when she popped out of the water. Here she made it more behind the boat. But you can still see how she's on the verge of going outside the wake.

She's down . . .

After all the wakeboarding . . . the pulling on your arms, the flexing of your abs and the use of back muscles that you didn't think you had, you have to get the stupid thing off your feet. We just purchased some new binding about a week ago and they are still pretty tight. Renae is struggling to get the wakeboard off, not hit her head on the boat and make sure that her bathing suit bottoms don't come off.

Renae got a great picture of me jumping. The great thing about the wakeboard is the jumping and the higher the better.
We decided to head in around 7:00. The water was really nice on the way back to the bridge where we put the boat in. We listened to some good tunes on the satellite radio that I got for Christmas, one of the best investments that I’ve ever made. Go Sirius, because XM is owned by Clearchannel!
Boating is fun . . .
